Travel Notes
When we arrived, we quickly found the coldest
room in the Hostel, and because there was no air conditioning in
the building, this was not an easy task. After a couple
hours of finding our rooms and relaxing, we now faced the task of
finding dinner. Our initial plan was to send some people
to get ingredients from the co-op across the street and cook
dinner for the rest of us, however, the co-op was closed.
On to plan two. We took about a fifteen minute walk into
town to find a pizzeria. The pizza was delicious and only
about 4 euros for a large pizza. When we got back to the
hostel, we had about three hours before the hostel was locked at
11:30, so some of us went out to walk around the town and get
some gelato while others went to the park that was just next
door. The temperature was almost bearable at night when
the sun went down, however the rooms in the hostel remained hot
for the remainder of the night.
After showers and breakfast concluded in the
morning, we all went to the open-air market. By 8:30, the
temperature was already 95 degrees Fahrenheit. At the
market, there was a wide variety of merchandise, goods, and
food, and we enjoyed all of it. For lunch, our 5 euros
paid for lots of food, including delicious pizza, fruit, and
beverages. Now on the to the beach!
The Adriatic Sea had warmer water than the youth
hostel. While we had the shade seeking group, many
of the ringers chose to cool off in the water. A group of
about 10 ringers, Mr. Pinkerton, and Sam Reid swam about a half
mile out to the breakers. We all enjoyed helping Spencer
drown. It was a highlight of the afternoon. We
looked like a group of albino Eskimos compared to the locals.
Ringers prepared dinner from the co-op while
Spencer sported a new hair cut courtesy of Katelyn. We
then returned to the gelatteria and enjoyed some good gelato,
some more than others (Spencer, Mr. Pinkerton).
We will be up bright and early tomorrow morning
and off to Florence. |
